My son is six and pretty advanced. He can probably do most of the third grade math curriculum. He can't borrow yet or carry well (those are the only two things). Standford EPGY is a good program it seems (affoardable) as is Dreambox. My son will be able to work at his own pace while his first grade class does whole group instruction. I'd like to see him advance at his own pace. What other self-guided programs are good out there. I am a math teacher and can remediate if I see he doesn't understand a particular concept. Can you help?
early mathmath curriculumThu, 08 May 2014 14:13:02 GMTtristatemathtutorHow do I support parents teaching their children math?

We homeschool our two children they are ages 8 and 10. We have used Saxon curriculum and it has always been an issue as it is dry and too rote. I want to light the book on fire and do a happy dance around it with the kids, but first need to know if I'll need it later :) Our tutor says they'll have gaps if we don't use a text.

We love this program and style of learning for my 7 yr old boy who seems naturally inclined and very motivated in academics. We recently pulled him from school where his interests and desires were not being met. So now I am on the search for a good curriculum and am interested in what some of you other homeschoolers have found to work! Thanks!

Is there a research on which math concepts are easier for children to understand? Does the progression currently implemented in the standard preK-elementary school math curriculum reflect this research?early mathmath curriculummath researchThu, 14 Mar 2013 22:12:31 GMTyelenam
