I haven't seen the book, but I love the question. Please read any of my responses in that light. Wanting to play, but not knowing the game yet. I like 4Dland - kind of one giant leap past flatland
I asked my 8yo who is a HUGE fan of the first book. She said: - "On a trip around the world to find different kinds of money and sort it!" - "Sorting and adding all the cats without all the numbers in the infinity hotel to be there." I love how what sprung to mind was sorting -- she was listening in on conversations about a new project the other day which involved variables/attributes, and sorting was a big part of what we talked about. :-)
Pascal triangle by trema removal, eating at the shrinking foothold, is a way to go. Or making the Cat follow the chaos game. And then linking the two via modular arithmetic
