Camp Logic early access feedback
If you are reading this, you should have received five chapters of the Camp Logic book by email. Please answer some of these questions, leave other feedback, or ask questions. Any feedback will help Mark Saul and Sian Zelbo to improve the book. They will reply to everyone, and incorporate the suggestions posted before the end of June.
- How good was the book? What caught your eye?
- Were there parts where you wished for more details?
- Were there confusing parts, problems you did not know how to start, or other roadblocks?
- Have you noticed anything we need to fix about spelling, grammar, and style? Any other comments to the editors?
- What do you think of illustrations?
- Do you feel you could run these activities with kids after reading? If not, what other support would you need?
Thank you for your feedback. We will take another look at the manuscript and think about how we can format the text and use subtitles to guide the reader.
As I scroll through I see that you actually have used subtitles, but my initial reaction is there is so much text to focus on. I don't say this as a criticism, just to point out that b/c there is a lot you have to say to help adults learn how to support kid learners it might help to think about how to format the text in the final version so that we (readers) can easily identify which aspects of the activity you are speaking of -- is it background/foundational knowledge? Is it directions for how to introduce it to kids? Are you pointing to examples of how to help kids work through the ideas?
So, I'm reading Chapter 1 right now and I will leave comments as they come to me. First thought is that there is a lot of text. I wonder if/how it would work to put a few subtitles w/in the explanatory text for each game, something like "Objectives" "Set-up" "Understanding cryptarithms" etc.
