Look for iconic quantities in nature or culture. There are all sorts! Find quantities so small you can subitize them at a glance, or so large you will grow old before you finish counting. Investigate quantities that come in sets, collections, and groups of groups that represent multiplication. What quantities can you discover in self-similar, fractal structures?
You can start by looking in the mirror. Ask questions such as “What do we usually have one of? Two of?” Continue the scavenger hunt around the house and out in the yard. Take photos or make sketches of your finds.
