I am a part-time homeschooling mom to two boys, ages 9 and 5. All the typical curriculum-driven programs have been challenging for us. Our boys have lots of energy, a reasonably high level of distractability, and are far more driven by lego and digging in the mud, than sitting at a table doing book-work. But they love to talk about interesting ideas - so we are looking for modes of conveying material through conversation (in the car, at meal-times and so on), nature walks and everyday activities (grocery shopping, playing at the park, for example). Also, math in particular has cause our 9yo some grief and this year has been a process of breaking down the 'wall' that he has put up, mentally, about numbers in general. We are making progress!
