You can start playing games inspired by multiplication from birth! For example, in the Live Mirror game you "double" everything the baby does. I just posted a video of that game to our "Metaphors for Mathematics" collection on Pinterest. Young kids (and grown-ups too) also love to play with actual mirrors, and if you make mirror books, you can create the whole times table, not just doubles. The earlier you start working with models of multiplication such as splitting, symmetry, folding, and arrays, the more intuitions your kids will develop.
