A few queries about video-conferencing
1. How do I prepare for the video-conferencing?
2. Is it going to be one-to-one communication or will it involve other people too?
3. Do you have guidelines for the video-conferencing?
4. Is the video-conferencing a deciding factor (prerequisite) for being accepted for this course or a need to put people on the right track who are involved on the course?
5. Please provide any more information about the video-conferencing process as this is my first endeavor.
What if I'm a total Luddite? My computer is too old to have a camera, and I've never done any kind of internet call before. Is there some kind of special software I need or something?
We changed the description to read "video or audio call" for people who don't have cameras, or have slow Internet connections. You can plug simple, cheap headphones into most computers. You can use a Google or a Facebook account to talk in voice and video, or you can install Skype. Using voice online really changes the game, so I incorporate it into all online courses I design. People who never tried later say live meetings was one of their favorite features!
This is a question about [the mathematical problem solving course][1] we are running in July 2013. We will have a separate space for the course's questions. Meanwhile: 1. The general topic of the discussion is your math dreams for the kids. Prepare by thinking about that. 2. It will be one-on-one, but recorded for others to view later. We will ask permission for recording, before beginning it. 3. We think of the meeting as a friendly chat. Talk informally, and ask anything! 4. The conference is a part of a sign-up process. It is required to start the course. It helps to prepare for the first task. It also establishes a chat channel with one of the organizers, so you can keep asking questions later. 5. It's pretty similar to a face-to-face conversation you may have with a colleague or a student. Except people can be anywhere in the world!
