Join us for a presentation and discussion with Liam Nilsen about his Endor Initiative network .
Liam Nilsen is a lifelong self-directed learner and the founder of the Endor Initiative, an Agile Learning Center for young adults. He works with NBTSC, JoyLabz and is a math enthusiast.
Endor is part learning space, part work space, for teenagers not enrolled in high school in Asheville, NC.
Participants learn in areas as they become relevant to their work, or as their interests direct. Participants evaluate their own work, and decide for themselves when to begin or discontinue an area of study.
About Math Future series
Math Future is an international network of people who care about mathematics education: researchers, developers, teachers, parents, and students. Since 2009, we have organized more than a hundred live online events with leaders of amazing projects.
This was an interesting presentaion and the more I think about it, I am thinking that Endor is kind of a place for culture building among young adults in a framework of self-education. I would be quite interested in learning what the Endor participants consider most valuable about their participation. btw. The terminology "culture building" in this context to me reflects a kind of bonding in a useful and enjoyable environment. I would be interested in knowing other people's definition of culture building and if and why they consider it important. Linda FS
