I like all of these topics! I choose "A Sampler" and "Problem Debates". I'm learning through dialogue and sharing ideas. Kids are inspiring!

We got the pentominoes in the mail and are doing lessons. Wonderful to see my son work his way through difficult problems and solve the puzzle and thinking. I will post photos on my wiki spaces page. I can't seem to shrink them for this page.
Are you both enjoying the activities? Which one is your favorite?
You can put the links elsewhere, and share the links with us.
Thank you,
Julia

I like 3 Tiling puzzles and 6 Symmetry. And my third choice is 1 introduction problems.
Answer by Nadezhda · Dec 05, 2013 at 01:01 AM
my choice would be: 2 (Strange Statements: Logic), 3 (Tiling Puzzles), 6 (Symmetry)
3 and 6 are pure geometry which I personally admire and I am sure young children will easily understand as these are visual.
2 is good, as it plays with the language and is always interesting for younger ones, too.
Now I need to start preparations (get all materials, set the place etc) as I have already announced the course and one girl has promised to come!

All topics are so interesting! I'm happy to do which ever, but I think 5 (infinity), 3 (tiling), and 6 (symmetry) are top choices.

I am most interested in 2,5 and 7. I took into consideration the interests/personalities of the students and myself. Since they also are in a school situation I looked for something that would compliment or enrich their mathematical experiences without duplicating school. Infinity is perhaps more of an interest of mine and a bit of a "hot button" based on all my experiences with young children who want to tell me they know the "biggest number is infinity" or claim they can "count to infinity".

I would like to try the following:
1. Strange Statements: Logic
2. Lateral Solutions
3. Infinity

Will we be able to cover all of these by the course's end? If so I'll choose 1, 2, and 4 for a start.

I'd like to try Strange Statements:Logic activities this week! My group has been really interested in logic, so this fits right in with our current interests. I'd also be interested in Tiling Puzzles and Lateral Solutions.
